Morning’s Frost ~ Kay Salady

Morning’s Frost

A frosted brush has painted
Embellishments on the glass
With silvery glints of lavender
And white as I gaze past
A sill of sparkling wonder
To behold an icy lake
Beyond the aspen trees
Laden with snowflakes
A cardinal on his branch
Perches there so still
A scarlet fire against
The early morning’s chill
I wonder if his song
Lies hidden ‘neath the snow
Waiting to escape
When springtime says hello
