Time is an Illusion ~

“Time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time,’ is like saying, ‘I don’t want to.”  ~ Lao Tzu

“The mind exists in time, in fact the mind is time; it exists in the past and the future. And remember, time consists of only two tenses, the past and the future. The present is not part of time, the present is part of eternity.” ~ Osho

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future,  Concentrate the mind on the present moment.” ~ Buddha

Time is an Illusion

Time itself is only a perception made up by man. It is our mind’s way of dissecting the universe in a way which can be perceived. It is a sensory perception, entirely created by the act of perception. Time seems to be an artifact of our mind – psychological. In order to even realize that the flow of time has even occurred, you must be aware or have consciousness, you must have motion (change), and you must have realized that motion has taken place and be aware of that change. Without these three things, time has no meaning.

Time has no substance, mass, energy, anything. Time is a real phenomenon an intricate part of our life. We feel the flow of time, we measure time, however the real feeling of time “the present” cannot be measured. Past appears to be recorded memory and future is just a mental projection based on our past experiences.

The perception of time is possibly an emergent concept and the underlying mechanism is possibly change or motion. We can show that time is connected with motion and may even be a measure of motion. There is a real phenomenon a continuous change through which we live. To understand time we have to understand the mechanism which brings about this continuous change from which our mind creates the illusion of flow of time.

Time becomes evident through motion and is measured by comparison with other motions. Sunrise sunsets, night and day, the changing seasons, the movement of the celestial bodies are all indicative of continuous change. The aging process is a reminder that molecular motion and interactions are also at work and are a part of time. The other very important aspect of time is presence of motion of particles like photon and motion at atomic level. Time however is not just motion, forces are also part of time.

There is no past or future only present is real. Passage of time creates the illusion of an arrow because of the way forces act. Forces being part of time. All time occurs in a single instant, it is only our awareness, which traverses the moment, which constitutes the time continuum.
